Reenan Borman's beautiful whole-bunch fermented Syrah in concrete tanks is aromatic with berries and roses with good tannin and spice on the palate. Some of the most elegant Syrah outside of the Northern Rhône.
Pinot clones 115, 667 & 777 are picked by hand, then cold-soaked before fermentation to lift aroma, in concordance with a native yeast post fermentation maceration to get the tannin in place whereafter spends 10 months in 228 liter French oak barrels (26% new and older). Approximate drinking window: 2026 to 2042 This dryland vineyard is situated just 12 km from the sea and lies at 300 m above sea-level. The soils are granite origin with a significant portion of clay in the subsoil. It was a late vintage, with great ripening conditions and very healthy fruit. The wine was picked in two batches from two vineyard sites just 100 meters from each other. The resultant wine from these two sites is energetic, concentrated and has a great fresh acidity and beautiful ageing potential.
