Deep red leaning into purple, as is characteristic of Carmenère. Intense blackberry and blueberry on the nose, accompanied by pleasing spice notes of bell pepper and black pepper, rounded out by time in French oak barrels, delivering a very complex wine. The palate of the wine shows extreme smoothness and potency, with a very long, pleasant finish. 85% Carmenere, 15% Cabernet Franc.
A very fine Pinot Grigio with grapefruit and citrus pith aromas and extended lees aging. A big step up in quality from the mass-produced Italian versions.
Riesling grapes picked in 2011, bottled in 2017, therefore developing tertiary characterics to match the fruit. Glorious honeyed nose. Astonishingly well-priced bottle from the oldest winery in Austria.
Nikolaihof was the world's first Biodynamic estate and the family winery is still one of the top producers of Gruner Veltliner wines in the region. The wine is flinty, peppery, and just off dry. It's a perfect pairing for Sichuan food.
Noah's Bramaterra is a great example of Alto Piemonte's potential to step out of Barolo and Barbaresco's shadow. This selection of Nebbiolo, Croatina, and Vespolina spends two years in barrel and another year in bottle before release and is beautifully perfumed and complex.
Another stellar South African Chenin, made of fruit from 43-year-old vines that see limited sun, and aged on lees in neutral vessels. Floral on the nose, with a muted hint of beeswax among the orchard fruit, sage, and slate. Crisp and clean.
